Gameday Countdown

UPDATE: We are now officially 11 DAYS away from the start of Auburn Football and 18 DAYS from the first game in Jordan-Hare Stadium. This morning when I woke up, the cooler air reminded me that it is almost that time. While it is still hot, we are starting to get glimpses of what is to come. Today we are going to dive into the world of tailgating. We receive calls all the time asking the who, what, where about tailgating on gameday, so today, we hope to help answer some of those questions! Below is information straight from the fan guide. To receive a copy of the official fan guide, email info@aotourism.com or call (334) 887-8747.

How does it work in general?

  • Tailgating is not allowed on campus until 4 p.m. on Friday. Tailgating will be allowed on Friday at 6 a.m. for the Alabama game.
  • Please observe and follow signs in and around all construction areas.
  • Reserving tailgating spots in grass areas using stakes, ropes, ribbons, tape, chairs, tables, tents, vehicles or other items is not allowed until 4 p.m. on Friday (except Alabama game), except for specially permitted University events. Items found before then are subject to removal without notice or reimbursement.
  • It is unlawful to use any university utilities.

Where can I tailgate with my RV?

The hayfields on Donahue Drive will open for free, public RV parking at 2 p.m. on Thursdays prior to home games. The hayfields close at 4 p.m. on Sundays following each home game. The hayfields will open on Wednesday at 2 p.m. for the Alabama game.

Can I buy tailgating spots?

Tailgate at the Park- This fall, bring your tailgate parties to the Tailgate at the Park, where your space is reserved all season, and your walk to the game is only a block. Tailgate packages are available for any size group-whether it's just you and your family, or if you and your friends plan to reserve space together. Fans can customize their packages to include premium parking, reserved tailgate spots, tents, tables, and chairs. RV Parking and special event packages are available too. Reserve your season of hassle-free tailgating at www.ag.auburn.edu/tailgate.

Tailgate Guys- Since 2009, Tailgate Guys has provided a superior, turn-key tailgating service for the game day fan. Offering fully customizable tailgate packages, Tailgate Guys can accommodate almost any size or type of tailgate. All tailgate packages include tents, chairs, tables, and personalize signage with the option to add TV packages, catering and other supplemental items. They operate in a premier location on the Campus Green just steps from Jordan-Hare Stadium. For more information, please visit www.tailgateguys.com or call (334) 209-1259.

Are there any special requirements for my tent?

Tents with stakes shorter than 12-inches may be set up after 4 p.m. on Fridays (6 a.m. for Alabama game). Permits are required for any tent with stakes that are 12-inches or longer. Permit requests are handled online at www.auburn.edu/tents or (334) 844-4619.

Special permits are required for outdoor entertainment events with amplified sound. Permit requests must be submitted at least 14 days in advance and must include a list of required information for the request to be approved. Requests should be made to (334) 844-4619. Special event permits are not site reservations.

Can I have a grill?

Grills are not allowed within 50 feet of campus buildings or in other designated no-grill areas. All fires must be contained within grills or other containers designed specifically for that purpose. Extinguish charcoal fires thoroughly with water before leaving them unattended. Place extinguished charcoal in designated containers or remove it from campus for disposal. Do not dump charcoal on the group or in dumpsters. Tailgating and grilling are not allowed in the parking decks.

Will there be recycling bins for me to use?

Please keep campus beautiful by placing all trash and recycling in the proper bins located throughout the university tailgate areas, RV lots, and stadium for your convenience. Litter and recycling bags will also be distributed in tailgate areas and RV lots to help keep the university litter-free. Please see the Gameday map for trash and recycling locations.

Can I drop my tailgate supplies off?

Each game day, fans will have the opportunity to unload their vehicles in one of six designated locations.

The locations are:
A. Transportation Tech Center (Magnolia Avenue)
B. Goodwin Music Hall (Samford Avenue)
C. Mell Street Station (Mell Street)
D. Thach Avenue (Mell Street)
E. Intramural Fields (Biggio Drive)

Tiger Trek 2015

Auburn is everywhere. Whether you are catching a flight to Europe or in the grocery store in your hometown, chances are you have had a "War Eagle" moment, but sometimes those little glimpses of the Auburn family just aren't enough. The Auburn Alumni Association has a cure, Tiger Trek 2015. Before we dive into the excitement that is Auburn football, the Auburn Alumni Association offers fans, alumni and those that need to be swayed a chance to have a night out with the Auburn family and some of its favorite members.

Emerald Coast Auburn Club Tiger Trek 2015

Who are these people?

Auburn Clubs are the heart and soul of the Auburn Alumni Association. They play a very important role in Auburn's presence throughout the United States. There are currently 90 active Auburn Clubs all over the country, stretching as far west as California and as far east as the Carolinas, and everywhere in between. These clubs work tirelessly throughout the year to bring Auburn Football watch parties, Freshman Send Offs, Annual Meetings, community service projects and student scholarships to communities everywhere. For more information on Auburn Clubs, visit www.auburnclubs.org.

Emerald Coast Auburn Club participates in Auburn Alumni in Action at a beach clean up event.

What should I expect?

Every Tiger Trek is a little different, but all of them have one thing, or person in common, Auburn Head Football Coach Gus Malzahn. Of course Aubie makes an appearance as well, what Auburn event is complete without him? On a serious note, these special events serve as a fundraiser for student scholarships that are given by the Auburn Clubs. On top of the great food and fun for all ages, the Auburn-Opelika Tourism Bureau will be there to provide information on everything from hotel accommodations for football season, dining options in our beautiful city and shopping to golf information and even a few giveaways and chances to win fabulous prizes. Be sure to stop by and see us, or as always, visit www.aotourism.com.

Sign me up! When, where and how?

Helpful Hints for Gameday

It’s less than 40 days until football season (not like we’re counting!) and we absolutely can’t wait to open against Arkansas on August 30, 2014, and see Auburn fans from all over the country back in the loveliest village! Whether you’re tailgating, going to the game or even visiting Auburn for the first time, here are some great ways to get the most out of your game day experience.

Somewhere to Stay

It’s a common misconception that there’s nowhere to stay in Auburn when it comes close to football season! While certain game weekends fill up quickly, the hotels are never 100% full. However, if you go online to check a certain hotel, sometimes it will say there’s no availability – not true! The staff at the tourism bureau calls all of the hotels every week leading up to football season to check rooms and rates, and there are always rooms available! Go to the aotourism.com homepage and click on the spinning football – you can view the football availability, week by week, including minimum rates for every hotel.

Here's what the football availability looks like!
If you’re still having trouble, give us a call at 334-887-8747. We can help you find a room!

 Packing the Essentials

It’s easy to remember to pack your orange and blue and your famous chip dip for your tailgate – but here are some items commonly forgotten that can make or break your gameday.

1. Sunglasses and sunscreen: Absolutely essential for games on the plains! Depending on the time of the game, you might be sitting in the sun and/or squinting to see the eagle fly. Don’t get sunburned or miss the iconic tradition – remember to pack sun protection to keep your skin and eyes healthy!

2. Shakers: How many times have you walked into the stadium and realized you didn’t have a shaker? Shakers are essential for cheering, so unless you want to buy one when you get in town, pack your lucky shaker first (next to your Auburn shirt!)

3. Portable phone charger: This is a new addition to the must-have list. Phone batteries die quickly on gameday (between the Instagram photos, checking the scores of other games and even trying to send a text in the stadium.) Pick up a portable one and charge it up before you leave – that way you won’t be hunting around for an outlet when you should be having fun! You can pick them up almost anywhere, including grocery stores and gas stations.

4. Toilet Paper: Do we even have to explain this one?

Enjoying the Events

The main event on a football weekend is, of course, the football game. But there’s always more to do before and after the game! Check out the calendar here – some of our favorites are Football, Fansand Feathers and AUsome Amphibians and Reptiles!

A turkey vulture at the Southeastern Raptor Rehabilitation Center.

Finding Your Way Around

Auburn is easy to navigate, but when thousands of fans stream in to watch their Tigers play, it can get confusing! Check out www.auburntigers.com for a parking map of where you can park on campus, but there are plenty of off-campus parking options too. Many establishments will sell parking spots, but be sure not to park anywhere you will get towed (like restaurants or apartment complexes).  The tourism bureau also operates shuttles that go to the hotels and other main locations, like TigerTown and the Village Mall. All of that information can be found here
And, of course, you can’t forget to eat. If you’re still peckish after your tailgate, check out the Best Bites list to see where to go after the game (or for brunch the next morning!)
One of our favorite "bites" - the crab cake and avocado sandwich from Amsterdam Cafe!
